I'm the Playboy editor Violet spoke to. I'm not the editor in chief. I write the Playboy Advisor column and have for the past 12 years. I called Violet because I received a question asking about what women "really think about porn." Who better to consult about this subject than Violet? Specifically, I wanted to get her thoughts about fMRI studies that indicate the male brain has a much different response to explicit sexual images than the female brain (or at least the brains of men and women who agree to take part in porn studies). How she drew all these conclusions about what I believe from our discussion is beyond me. I would never argue that women can't get turned on by visual imagery. I also have never expressed the view "that women wouldn't be interested in anything that would cause them sexual pleasure outside of anything that would promote their biological imperative to breed and have babies." That's ridiculous. Can you find some women like Violet who really enjoy good porn and some men who have little interest in it? Sure. But from my reading of these studies, the reaction inside the brains of most men is a lightning bolt and for most women it's an electrical storm. The current issue (November) quotes Violet and has more information about the studies.
