The cards are stacked against the grower. The wildly kangaroo court is a desperate move in some ways, but the tide has turned in the court of public opinion on pot. The nutty zealots in power hope this move will scare other people from being just as audacious as Ed as to provide the healing herb to those who are too frail and sick to provide for themselves. They also crassly believe it is proper to take Ed to the poor farm for running interference for those in need of their medicine.

I think this story needs to get out more. Ed’s best defense is to continue reaching out to the public in whatever way he can.

Get some actors to dramatize the court room scene in a Judge Judy mockup and put it up on YouTube. Show a person with cancer throwing up their dinner at the end of the piece.

Please Digg up Ed in the coming months.

A further minor point of clarification, charges against Rosenthal were brought by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, not by the D.A. The D.A.’s office is an instrument of the municipality, not the Federal Government and it generally does not prosecute crimes under federal law.

Minor correction - there is no such thing as the “Ninth Circuit of the Supreme Court”. It’s the “United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit”. They’re one layer below the Supreme Court [of the United States -- not to be confused with the California State Supreme Court, which is also one layer below the SCOTUS, but in a different hierarchy]. They hear appeals from federal trial courts in California and several other states.
