I remember when that article came out. The whole theme of that issue was "Get Smart," as the movie was about to hit theaters. It even had a guest article by Steven Carrel, written in a satirical manner from the angle of his latest film's character, Maxwell Smart. The entire issue was filled with tongue-in-cheek articles and pictures, like the drug table that is discussed in this post. The New York Times apparently lacks the common sense to understand satire and humor.
